Fire Shut Up in My Bones!

To teach or not to teach…there is no question!

Weeds in the Garden

I don’t know about you but I think everyone at one point in time in their life has either had a garden or wanted one. I don’t think that there is anything better than a fresh grown tomato picked right off the vine. I always look forward to seeing the fruit and vegetables grow and look forward to the time when I can reap the harvest, the benefits of what I have sown.

One of the hardest things about a garden though is the constant upkeep. You work the soil and get it all cleared out and remove any rocks or foreign objects that are in the way that will impede the growth of your plants. You excitedly pick out the seeds that you want to grow in anticipation of the crop it will produce. You sow the seeds into the ground and time seems to stop as you wait for the first signs of life to come up out of the soil. You finally see the plants emerge and can barely contain your excitement but then you also begin to notice other items popping up in your garden that you know you didn’t sow there. You pull the couple of pesky weeds out and feel accomplished and go on about your day. You go back the next morning only to find that more weeds have popped up, your plants are growing though and as much as you would like or need to pick the weeds out, you don’t have time because you have to go to work or perform whatever tasks that are on your plate that day.

Avoidance vs Battle

Ever have so much going on in your life that it seems like one tidal wave after another. In the midst of the battle you become overwhelmed and you start to lose yourself and in the face of all that is happening you start to avoid things. Life has been really rough over the last couple of years. Between being laid off from my job because they decided to merge departments and I was the most logical choice due to the distance that I lived from the company and the salary savings it would bring; the severe back issues that seem to get worse and worse even after having surgery and being on medication to stop the pain, which has not helped at all and then the most impactful of all, losing my mom in January of this year after a yearlong battle with her health.

It’s funny how things like this can cause us to go into avoidance mode, and when I say funny I guess I mean sadly. The sheer volume of trials at times takes its toll. I have always prided myself as being one that knew God was in control Continue reading “Avoidance vs Battle”

Faith Like a Child

Have you ever read Matthew 18:2-4 and truly meditated on what that scripture is saying to us as Christians?

Matthew 18:2-4 reads, “2 Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.”

If we are honest with ourselves we would realize that most of the time we read through scripture quickly and don’t slow down long enough to think about what we just read and how it applies to our everyday lives. I have been saved since 1996 and a minister since 1999 and there are plenty of times that I have read the word out of a works mindset instead of setting my mind on seeking Him and what He is saying to me in that moment. I know that some will read this and will be taken aback by Continue reading “Faith Like a Child”

I Will Praise the Lord!!!

In Psalm 34, David writes, “I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. I will boast only in the Lordlet all who are helpless take heart. Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.” (NLT version)

It has been a while since I have written and to be perfectly honest, I go through seasons. Seasons where I don’t know if I would say that I am not inspired, because my inspiration is God, but I would say my focus is elsewhere during those times. As I sit here at lunch today, late as always, I am thinking on the Lord’s goodness and all that He has brought me through and it occurs to me once again, that I have let the circumstances of my life dictate whether or not I am writing as I should be. I know, none of Continue reading “I Will Praise the Lord!!!”

Just Turn to Him

In the last few weeks there has been so much that has gone on. I don’t even know where to begin. So, I will start with this. Life is hard and being a Christian is hard. If you don’t believe me, try being one and holding your tongue when all you want to do is say something. Seriously, by nature, if you know me at all you know that being silent or not speaking my mind is not my strong suit. However, if you also truly know me you know that I hold my tongue much more than I would if I weren’t saved.

I am thankful for the life I have and for my Lord that saved me. I am thankful that if I do screw up and say something I shouldn’t that God is faithful and just and He will forgive my sin (I have to repent of course). I hate when I mess up though so hopefully as I get older in the Lord each year, God is helping to change me more
