Our Daily Walk

Our Heavenly Father and His Children

You ever get so busy with things that you don’t know whether you are coming or going? So busy that you can’t remember what you were supposed to be doing. You know that you should make a list to help you remember but then a couple of days or even a couple of weeks later you remember what it was that you were supposed to do and so you just tilt your head back and sigh in exasperation.

Well lately that seems to be my life. I’m sure that the majority of the people reading this have encountered the same issues. Our lives are just way too busy!!! Sometimes it is not the busyness of the body but the busyness of the mind that wares you out.  I believe a lot of the hype about New Year’s resolutions come from the busyness of the previous year and years past, as well as the craziness of the holidays. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and wonderful New Year’s Day, by the way. I also pray the year that we are heading into will have many breakthroughs for each of us and will be a year that is life giving.

Speaking of life giving, slowing down and taking a moment to meditate on things helps us to think more clearly. Which is helpful because the more clearly we think, the less we will be deceived. I was praying and meditating with God and I feel like He just poured this into me so that I can pour it out to you.

A New Beginning

I haven’t posted to my blog in forever and I don’t seem to post or get on FB or any social media very much anymore or at least not as I used to. To be honest, I just haven’t had the heart for it since probably around the time my mom became sick and then passed away, which is coming up on two years. It’s funny how life can change in an instant and be turned upside down.

Truly there are many other reasons I could list but I know we’ve all had issues going on in our lives over the last couple of years and then with the state of our world today there is just no need to burden everyone with mine. So, I want to post something encouraging.

I read this message from Lisa Bevere today and it spoke to me. Given that I know it may speak to someone else who might be reading this, I thought I’d share. This is written to God’s daughters but it applies to God’s sons as well.

“I’m afraid I will miss God.”

I find this statement to be one of the most common concerns among the most selfless and tender Christians. On the surface, this fear of “missing God” sounds noble, but time has taught me that the enemy pounces on it, then uses it to entrap people. It is his ploy to make everything about our performance rather than our trust in God’s grace. It changes the focus to our ability to follow rather than His ability to lead.

Weeds in the Garden

I don’t know about you but I think everyone at one point in time in their life has either had a garden or wanted one. I don’t think that there is anything better than a fresh grown tomato picked right off the vine. I always look forward to seeing the fruit and vegetables grow and look forward to the time when I can reap the harvest, the benefits of what I have sown.

One of the hardest things about a garden though is the constant upkeep. You work the soil and get it all cleared out and remove any rocks or foreign objects that are in the way that will impede the growth of your plants. You excitedly pick out the seeds that you want to grow in anticipation of the crop it will produce. You sow the seeds into the ground and time seems to stop as you wait for the first signs of life to come up out of the soil. You finally see the plants emerge and can barely contain your excitement but then you also begin to notice other items popping up in your garden that you know you didn’t sow there. You pull the couple of pesky weeds out and feel accomplished and go on about your day. You go back the next morning only to find that more weeds have popped up, your plants are growing though and as much as you would like or need to pick the weeds out, you don’t have time because you have to go to work or perform whatever tasks that are on your plate that day.

Avoidance vs Advancement

Ever have so much going on in your life that it seems like one tidal wave after another. In the midst of the battle you become overwhelmed and you start to lose yourself and in the face of all that is happening you start to avoid things. Life has been really rough over the last couple of years. Between being laid off from my job because they decided to merge departments and I was the most logical choice due to the distance that I lived from the company and the salary savings it would bring; the severe back issues that seem to get worse and worse even after having surgery and being on medication to stop the pain, which has not helped at all and then the most impactful of all, losing my mom in January of this year after a yearlong battle with her health.

It’s funny how things like this can cause us to go into avoidance mode, and when I say funny I guess I mean sadly. The sheer volume of trials at times takes its toll. I have always prided myself as being one that knew God was in control Continue reading “Avoidance vs Advancement”

Faith Like a Child

Have you ever read Matthew 18:2-4 and truly meditated on what that scripture is saying to us as Christians?

Matthew 18:2-4 reads, “2 Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.”

If we are honest with ourselves we would realize that most of the time we read through scripture quickly and don’t slow down long enough to think about what we just read and how it applies to our everyday lives. I have been saved since 1996 and a minister since 1999 and there are plenty of times that I have read the word out of a works mindset instead of setting my mind on seeking Him and what He is saying to me in that moment. I know that some will read this and will be taken aback by Continue reading “Faith Like a Child”
