Time to Move Ahead

There is so much rolling around in my head right now that it is hard to sit down and type it all out. I haven’t written in a while and it seems that my writing comes in cycles. I want to first apologize for not always being obedient to write when I should as I know that this is something God has given to me in order to help others. I am not sure if it’s my busy schedule, laziness or an actual attack of the enemy to keep me from writing but either way, I endeavor to do better.

There has been so much that God has been downloading into me lately, I am not sure where to even begin but I am praying that the Holy Spirit will just take over my hands and heart and write what He would want me to communicate. So many times we tend to be moved by our environment, whether it is at church, work or any other social engagement that we are a part of. We are also moved by the traditions of man, a lot of those are not even what God had in mind for you. Scripture tells us in Galatians chapter 3:28-29 that in Christ, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.” So, if that is the case, why do we allow ourselves to remain in bondage to men and to the traditions of men? Change Your Perspective

So, I originally wrote this back in 2011 on a day when I was having lunch with my wonderful husband and told me a story that he had heard on the way home. I thought it was touching and inspiring at the time and since I had decided to take a small break from studying, I took the time to write up a new post. In going through some of my older writings this spoke to me and I thought I would share it with you.

Years ago in Scotland, the Clark family had a dream. Clark and his wife worked and saved, making plans for their nine children and themselves to travel to the US. It had taken years, but they had finally saved enough money and had gotten passports and reservations for the whole family on a new liner to the US.

The entire family was filled with anticipation and excitement about their new life. However, 7 days before their departure, the youngest son was bitten by a dog. The doctor sewed up the little boy but hung a yellow sheet on the Clarks’ front door. Because of the possibility of rabies, they were being quarantined for 14 days. The Fine Line Between What Is Good & What Is God!

Too many times we get confused between what is a good thing versus what is a God thing. Most of us always want to help or do what we feel is right. The only problem with that is for a personality like mine, we tend to burn the candle at both ends and tire ourselves out. Having drive and wanting to be helpful or successful is not a bad thing, but if we are being guiding by what we are thinking is a good idea, instead of praying and asking God for His direction, then we miss the point. God wants to bless us and He wants to bless the work of our hands but sometimes, just sometimes, we step into things that God never intended for us to do and then we wonder why everything is going to pot and why we are so overwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, being a Christian is not a cake walk and you will have trials, in fact, especially when you are doing what is right. However, the distinct difference is the peace that we feel in the middle of the trail and the blessings that follow. Continue reading “The Fine Line Between What Is Good & What Is God!”

Into the Fire

I was watching a cooking show, of all things, the other day and it was an episode of Chopped with Firemen as the chefs. While watching the show, one of the firemen stated that at the firehouse they are a tightly knit group. The people that they work with every day is their family. They eat with them, sleep with them and share the most intimate details of their life with each other. Man, that really got me to thinking; that is what a life group is all about. A life group is a group of people who get together and share their lives, they share their victories, their hurts, their struggles, and their growth. Churches today have become so big and so massive that most have lost the closeness that was always supposed to be part of the body of Christ. The quote that the fireman said was that, “you have to know who you are working with because when it comes to running into the fire, you have to know that you can trust the one you’re fighting the fire with.” That is such a revelation. God Is Our GPS

This week has been a week of learning. Learning about my weaknesses and learning about the things that I am struggling with that gets in the way of my walk and my relationship with God. Really all of our lives are based on a whole process of learning about ourselves but when you become a Christian, this is something that we should be evaluating on a daily basis. The more that we learn the more we can adjust our course and do things the right way. I want to be more than the label Christian. Too many times we come across someone and they say that they are a Christian but then the way that they act or their lifestyle tells another story. I would like to believe that I live what I preach and that my life is always pressing to be more like Jesus. However, even if that is true, there is always more to learn and more that we need to change in order to be like Him. Let’s face it, we live in a fallen world where everything that we see and hear is used to lead us further and further away from God. I was thinking about the label of Christian the other day and it made me think of a designer bag…I know this sounds strange but wait, hear me out. You see I can go into the local Walmart and buy a handbag and slap a Gucci label on it but that bag is no more a Gucci than a turtle is fast. With that said, please, please, please, don’t be turned off by people that claim they are Christians just because their character doesn’t demonstrate the qualities that they should. Not all Christians are like that. A lot are really just trying to press in and be closer to God and they genuinely love people right where they are.
